Rear Adm. Christopher J. Mossey, P.E., CEC, USN, formally assumed the roles of Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and Chief of Civil Engineers from Rear Adm. Greg Shear, P.E., CEC, USN, in a change of command ceremony held last week at Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. Previously assigned as Vice Commander of Navy Installations Command, and Director, Shore Readiness Division (N46), on the Chief of Naval Operations staff, Adm. Mossey will lead nearly 2,000 active and reserve Civil Engineer Corps officers and approximately 20,000 civil servants and contractors as NAVFAC Commander.
Adm. Mossey previously commanded NAVFAC Atlantic from June 2007 to September 2009, NAVFAC Pacific from October 2006 to June 2007, and served as Commanding Officer, NAVFAC Washington, from 2004 to 2005.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead, USN, was on hand to present Adm. Shear with the Distinguished Service Medal for his exemplary leadership of NAVFAC and 31 years of honorable and dedicated service. Adm. Shear assumed command of NAVFAC in October 2006, after assignments as Director, Shore Readiness Division (N46), and Deputy Commander, Navy Installations Command.
